FACTIONS

Whether you're interested in creating a faction or joining one, this will be a helpful guide to read to have a clear understanding of what we vision for the Sim. Given the nature and theme, there will be various situations that might push your factions nerves. We remind everyone to remain calm and remember, this is collaborative.

At the core, this is a criminal sim. With darkened criminal elements. We suggest having a specific trade that your faction/gang uses to sway the public. This can be, and is not limited to, drugs, weaponry, importing/exporting etc. When dealing with such things, due to the limitations of SL, refine it a bit. IE: Cocaine, Heroin, Handguns, Rifles, Humans, Drugs. Etc! If you ever need a spark of help, never hesitate to reach out to a member of our staff!

CREATING FACTIONS

Gangs, cults or any other type of faction (criminal or not) are expected to be created organically through roleplay and are able to be whatever a player wants.  This means two things:

  1. You do not need permission to start something up, but you are limited to 6 players. There will be no pressure to apply for official status unless you want to grow beyond 6 players or want one of the official status perks. When looking at who to approve for official status we do look at creativity. Aim for what the sim may not already have or a gap you could fill.

  2. Leaders can pick and choose who is allowed in each of your gangs with no restrictions. If you want an all women's gang, or a woman hating gang -- it is up to you.

All factions will be held to the highest standard of roleplay etiquette and lead by example. This includes, but is not limited to,  communication with all parties in scenes, staff, and the community as a whole. It also means being extra courteous when it comes to rules and combat. The following also follows for all official and unofficial factions:

  • Factions who have repeated Abuse Reports on them might be subjected to timeout phases. Repeated offenders might be forced to disband.

  • Factions should always be open to roleplaying with anyone even if they are allowed to be picky about who joins. This is to avoid a "clique" feel on the sim. We know you enjoy writing with your friends, but new friends are great too!

  • Factions should be out on the streets approaching people from different areas and businesses! Create fluid storylines that reach beyond a small circle and beyond your area.

  • Factions should have a background story, or a purpose. That can be explained and be able to grow off of. (Why are they in Onyx Heights? What is the hierarchy of the gang? What's the goal for the gang? etc.)

  • If a faction OR lead is going to be absent for an extended period, they must communicate this with admin or risk losing their faction spot. We will happily work out who can be in command while you are away.

Factions are advised to use businesses as fronts for their criminal enterprises - Both Sim Business and Player Owned Businesses. This allows them to have a public front that makes them blend into the common civvies of Onyx Heights. Of course, thread carefully, once known, the Police Department might just catch onto the acts happening along the grid. In character actions have in character consequences.

There are numerous points of interest catered towards gangs built that are both built into the city's history and waiting to be created by you! These are given on a first come, first served basis and can be taken over through RP.  New ones may be created when stories drive towards it. No faction is safe from takeover no matter how big and how long they have been around. These areas not required for your faction roleplay - just little incentives so that factions strive for official status!
