In a world of anonymity we often find ourselves faced with those on the internet emboldened by vague usernames and even bolder declarations. This weekend, we at the Chronicle, received a front row seat to just how emboldened some become when protected by masks and careful camera angles.
Have you seen it?
A depraved dedication to the Chief of Police in which a woman, whom I’ve been informed by multiple sources is a civilian of Onyx Heights, is taunted and mercilessly tortured. Viewers can hear the masked assailant inform the victim that the police have failed her. The masked individual goes on to ask if the people of Onyx Heights trust those meant to protect them; If they know of the darkness that haunts the streets. Before the video goes black, the masked individual with a Korean accent makes a barter: for every cop brought to them a civilian is spared.
"We are coming, we will find you. This girl was merely in the wrong place. Ernesto Cruz.... I wonder how your flesh will taste... You've hidden your knowledge of us from the public, perhaps now they will bring you to us as tribute to save their own... For every cop we get a civilian is spared..."
There are of course some problems with the vigilante’s demands. Where are we to bring officers? Who are we to bring them to? More importantly, why are the hard working citizens of Onyx Heights responsible for doing criminal dirty work? I would wager it’s because the assailant is failing in gaining attention on their own.
I was able to affirm with Lt. Mickie Karu, that matters are currently being investigated, but there were no further comments from the police department at this time. How they’re being investigated, and who is doing the investigating you might ask? I was informed that the Police Chief himself would be leading this particular investigation, though requests for comments directly to his office have gone unanswered at the time of this publication.
You may be asking where that all leaves us. In short, it seems to this reporter that someone read my last article and got ahead of themselves. It’s cute, and believe me Masked Vigilante, I’m flattered. Asking me to coffee would have been a far more suitable venture, though you now have my undivided attention. Of course, the Chronicle’s undivided attention as well.
We’re curious what you have in store for the city next. Will you hold true to your word? Can the people of Onyx Heights trust those that are supposed to protect them?
More importantly, are you interested in doing what the Onyx Heights Police Department wont-
