Another witness has come forward to corroborate the allegations published in the Chronicle about the connection between a police officer and the boars released into the Pit Stop.
Four boars were released into the Pit Stop bar during a karaoke evening, causing two people to be hospitalized. Two of the boars were killed at the scene, and two others were killed the following day. A witness claimed to the Chronicle in an anonymous email that a police officer assisted the release of the boars into the bar. The claim was denied by Chief of Police Captain Axel Kane.
This was previously reported in the Chronicle.
Alex Douglas, who owns the pet shop in Onyx Heights and was one of those hospitalized, spoke to the Chronicle and confirmed that a police officer was involved. She identified the officer as one known as 'Barley', but she does not know the officer's last name.
She also confirmed that the boars each had a number painted on their backs - 1, 2, 3, and 5 - something in the original email but that was not published. The police officer was dragged in, she says, by a leash tied to the boar marked 5.
But she added some new details, in that she revealed that one of the boars was killed by another, and that she was injured by a shot fired by one of the customers, apparently aimed at a boar, that Alex was attempting to blindfold. She is unable to identify the shooter. The incident can be seen in the photo we published in our account of the anonymous allegations and is reproduced above. She says that the OHPD has not contacted her to make a statement.
The Chronicle has also spoken to the author of the anonymous email - not Ms Douglas - who has additionally suggested that those involved go higher up the police hierarchy than simple beat officers.
We are still awaiting an official statement from the OHPD outlining the results of their investigations. It is now nearly a month since the incident, and both injured parties have been released from hospital.
Were you at the Pit Stop on the night the boars came in? Please speak to the Chronicle in confidence if you were.
