Speed Dating Enjoyed by Most. Ended with Fight.

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

The speed dating event, organized by the owner of the Cum N' Go, Bennie Pugh, was enjoyed by most, but unfortunately ended in a violent altercation.

The event itself started well, with a crowd of Onyx Heights residents turning up. A bright awning had been erected outside the store, chairs and tables set up for couples, and free food was on offer. Free condoms were also available for those lucky enough to take things further.

Couples, both mixed and same-sex, took their places, as well as a few individuals who had just come for the food. The potential lovers chatted away.

It was only as the event started to run its course and participants began to drift off, the altercation broke out. It apparently began as a quarrel over a piece of the free pizza. Fortunately it didn't escalate much beyond shouting and a table being knocked over, and was soon quieted down. The person responsible has been banned from the store for two weeks.

Asked about the success of the event, Bennie Pugh said she didn't think that any couples went home together and that no condoms were taken. She thinks that people were a bit shy. She intends to repeat the event, but with alcohol next time.

Have you ever begun a relationship with a speed date? If so, please let the Chronicle know. ((IM VenusMari Zapedzki))
